Het programma van de CLIA (Cruise Lines International Association) – conferentie omvatte onder meer verantwoord toerismebeheer en vooral het verder uitzetten en versterken van de koers voor nog duurzamer cruisen.

Er waren 750 deelnemers vanuit de hele wereld van de Cruise Industrie onder wie ook Ambassadeurs, Ministers, Lokale & Regionale bestuurders, Leden van het Europees bestuur en Euro-commissaris. Waar ging het over: regelgeving en samenwerking binnen de cruise industrie, de economische impact en nog meer milieu verbeteringen en innovaties. De opening van de conferentie werd door Boudewijn Siemons, CEO van Port of Rotterdam, in het World Trade Centre verricht. Cruise Port Rotterdam hoste de Cruise Party Europe in de terminal.
Derek Otte, dichter en schrijver, droeg het speciaal vervaardigde gedicht “Cruising together, building tomorrow” voor (zie gedicht). Cruise is een belangrijke industrie voor Europa. Zeker ook door de nieuwbouw van cruiseschepen én het onderhoud daarvan in Europa. Daarmee net zo belangrijk voor Nederland waar veel expertise op die gebieden aanwezig is. De top van de cruise lines was aanwezig bij de CLIA Cruise Week, met Jason Liberty, Voorzitter CLIA International & CEO van Royal Caribbean en de CEO’s Harry Sommer (NCLH), Pierfrancesco Vago (MSC & Voorzitter CLIA Europe), Josh Weinstein (Carnival Corporation) en ook Charles ‘Bud’ Darr, de nieuwe CEO van CLIA International.

broadening horizons, holding place

different cultures, side by side

waves of kindness have to flow
for hospitality to grow

goals proven to be attainable
traveling port to port with hope

with rules upheld, near or far
health and safety, the highest bar
governance fair, employment true
economies rise, connections bloom
“all aboard!” through night and day
the cruise world charts a brighter way
evolving, improving, changing pace
