On 27 May, the golden Igus vector award was presented to Cruise Port Shore Power at the Holland America quay in Rotterdam. This is where the winning project is located: an integrated mobile shore power solution combined with the Wal.E system.

This system enables cruise ships to connect quickly and efficiently to the shore power grid. The innovation of the solution lies primarily in its ‘mobile’ and ‘integrated’ design and in the way cable carriers have been embedded over 230 metres in the quay wall, effectively moving the large movable power distribution unit. “For Cruise Port Rotterdam, shore power is an important step in further advancing operational sustainability,” says Arjan van der Linde, Terminal Manager & Manager Shore Power at Cruise Port Rotterdam.

“We wanted a solution that is not only technically reliable, but also fits the way our terminal operates – flexible and with consideration for both our clients and environment. The electricity we supply to cruise ships, for example, is generated almost entirely from sustainable sources such as solar and wind. Receiving international recognition for this solution is a great acknowledgement for us and all partners involved.”
