Port of Rotterdam replacing all lighting with LED

The Port of Rotterdam Authority is in the process of replacing the current low- pressure and high-pressure sodium lamps with LED variants. In the port area, including Botlek, Europoort and Maasvlakte, some 80 per cent of lighting of public roads has been replaced so far.

The Waalhaven area is next. LED lighting will also be installed for all ‘nautical objects’. These include jetties, pontoons and official shipping signs. In the Rotterdam port area, there are about 5,300 lamp posts, 3,200 of which are expected to remain after the new cable network has been installed. Since LEDs emit more light than the current lamps do, the same lighting quality can be achieved with fewer lamps.
